Dom and the Ikos press release September 2016
The success of Dom and the Iko’s just keep growing. From their two year residency at Ronnie Scott’s famous jazz club in London, to the five year long jam session for all things New Orleans, Dom and the Iko’s have been “lighting up the British blues and RnB scene” ever since (BBC Radio 2’s Paul Jones). “The best New Orleans band never to come from Louisiana” (Rocking Magpie) led by charismatic piano virtuoso Dom Pipkin have headlined blues and jazz festivals up and down the country, and released two acclaimed albums.
One of the foremost in his field, Dom Pipkin has appeared many times on British and American TV and radio with his interpretations of classic rolling New Orleans piano. Radio 2 presenter and jazz star Jamie Cullum says “I can’t hold a candle to this guy”, and Paloma Faith, who Pipkin was musical director to for four years adds “When Dom plays the piano, magic happens”
The all-star group, with playing credits ranging from Dr John, Laura Mvula, Paul Weller, Maceo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis, Ray Davies and David Byrne create a party wherever they go, and as well as their own songs recreate those of the greats – Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, The Meters, and many many more. The Meters drummer, and acknowledged godfather of New Orleans funk Zigaboo Modeliste says “Dom brings the whole New Orleans thing to the UK. So good!”.
